If I knew it would be the last
time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I’d tuck you in more tightly,
Pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I would see you walk out the door,
I'd give you a hug and give you a kiss
And call you right back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would hear your voice lift in praise,
I'd video tape each action and word,
And play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare a minute for you
I'd stop and say how much I loved you
Not assume you would know that I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd be there to share in your day,
I'd not be so sure you'd have many more,
And just let this one day slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
To make up for today's oversight,
And we always expect that worn "second chance"
To help make everything right.
We always expect another new day
To say our "I love you,"
And wait for tomorrow and another new chance
To ask "Is There Anything I can do?"
But just in case ,I might be wrong,
And today is all that I get,
I'd like to say how much "I love you"
And hope that we never forget.
Tomorrow's not promised to anyone,
Not young , nor old, nor the like,
And today might be the very last chance
To hold your loved one tight.
So hold your loved ones close today,
And whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
And that you'll always hold them dear
Take the time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Forgive me," "Thank you," "It's okay."
Then if tomorrow never comes,
You'll have no regrets from today.
